Teenagers Injured in Seattle Car Crash

On Behalf of | Jun 4, 2015 | Teen and Young Drivers

At least six teenagers were injured in a Seattle car accident in which one vehicle plummeted down a 70-foot embankment. As reported by King 5, the car crash occurred on I-5 in Seattle. Officials say one of the vehicles was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went through a guardrail and plummeted down the embankment. One of the passengers had to climb back up the hill to ask for help.

The police are looking into whether the two drivers were behaving erratically or even racing. They believe that the vehicles were moving at a high rate of speed but they have not announced if the drivers were involved in a street race. Of the eight teenagers inside the two vehicles, six suffered injuries. Two of the passengers have been listed in critical condition.

Accidents involving teenage drivers are tragically common this time of year. According to a recent AAA study, Memorial Day to Labor Day is among the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers. The majority of teen driver accidents this time of year are caused by speeding, driver distraction and impairment. Therefore, a significant number of teen driver accidents are preventable if young motorists are taught to put their cell phone down, drive the speed limit and to avoid impaired driving.

It is unclear if either young driver involved in this crash will face charges, but it is illegal to drive recklessly or race on a public roadway; according to Washington Statute 46.61.530: “No person or persons may race any motor vehicle or motor vehicles upon any public highway of this state.”

If a speeding, racing or reckless driver has hurt you, you have the right to pursue financial compensation for your injuries through civil litigation. A successful personal injury claim can result in financial support for your medical bills, time away from work, pain and suffering and other related damages. At Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S., an experienced Seattle car accident attorney can help you better understand your legal rights and options.
