10 Injured in Seattle Crash
A white pickup truck barreled down Rainier Avenue South in Seattle striking 15 vehicles and injuring 10 people. According to a King 5 news report, the car accidents occurred along three blocks of Rainier Avenue South between South Henderson Street and Seward Avenue Park South in Seattle Halloween night. Officials say nine of the 15 cars struck by the white pickup were occupied including a truck that contained five people. The driver of that truck was critically injured and two child occupants sustained serious injuries. The driver of a red vehicle was also critically injured and another driver suffered serious injuries. In total, 10 people were hurt and six were taken to Harborview Medical Center. Read the rest »
Pickup Truck, Van Occupants at Increased Risk for Spinal Cord Injury in Car Accidents
A study in the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine found that people involved in car accident collisions with a pickup truck or van are at a greater risk than those involved in a crash with a small car, and that occupants of pickup trucks and vans are at an increased risk for car crash spinal cord injuries.
The study sought to determine whether spinal cord injury risks increased when the difference in size and weight between two colliding vehicles increased. Researchers compared crash data from 101,682 spinal cord injury-causing crashes between a passenger car and a pickup or van with crash data from 805,991 similar accidents between two vehicles of roughly the same size and weight.
