Four Killed in Seattle New Year’s Day Crashes
Within a few hours of the New Year, three separate traffic accidents in the Seattle area resulted in four fatalities and four injuries. According to a report in KOMO news, two people were killed the morning of January 1 near Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood. Local police say a 24-year-old man and his friend were killed when a Ford Mustang Convertible struck a fire hydrant and overturned.
Around the same time as that fatal crash, a person was killed and three were critically injured when their car crashed into a pole on South 112th Street and 12th Avenue South in Seattle. In the third fatal crash, a 22-year-old man was killed when his pickup left Pacific Avenue while traveling between 60 and 100 mph.
It is common to see an increase in the number of fatal crashes around the holidays. It is not clear if any of these tragic accidents involved alcohol, but investigators are looking into various factors such as distractions, impairment, fatigue, and reckless driving.
Anyone who has lost a family member in a Seattle car accident would be well advised to look into his or her legal options. Filing a wrongful death claim against a negligent driver is often the only way to receive fair compensation for the loss of a loved one. A successful wrongful death claim against a dangerous driver can result in financial compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, lost future wages, loss of companionship, and other related damages.
Please remember to drive safely and to call a designated driver if you have been drinking. Never get into a car with someone who is intoxicated and report motorists who are driving erratically.
