Head-On Car Accidents on Maple Valley Highway Leave Driver, Dog in Critical Condition
A driver and his dog are both in critical condition after multiple head-on collisions on the Maple Valley Highway in Renton, according to a recent article by The Renton Patch.
Investigators say the crashes began when the driver crossed the center line on Maple Valley Highway, not far from the site of the Henry Moses Aquatic Center. His vehicle crashed into a red pickup truck, then continued down the wrong side of the road for a short distance before also crashing head-on into a black car. A third vehicle in the immediate vicinity managed to swerve and avoid a collision.
The driver and his dog, which was also in the vehicle, suffered critical car crash injuries. Both are recovering under medical care, but no updates have been issued on their condition. The occupants of the other two vehicles involved in the crash were also injured, but are expected to survive.
Investigators still have not determined why the first vehicle crossed the center line. Driver error or distraction is one possibility. A defective part or repair to the vehicle’s steering sometimes plays a role in lane-crossing accidents, as do sudden medical problems the driver suffers. Investigators have not verified or ruled out any of these possibilities in this crash, however.
