Head-On Crash on Washington’s Highway 2 Claims Man’s Life
A 65-year-old Washington man lost his life and one other person was injured in a head-on car accident on Highway 2 recently, according to a news report from KOMO.
The man was traveling along Highway 2 in the family’s minivan, along with his adult son, when the van crossed the center line. It sideswiped one car traveling in the opposite direction, then crashed head-on into a second vehicle.
The driver of the van was airlifted to a Seattle hospital, but his injuries proved fatal during the trip. His son, who had also been riding in the van, was not hurt, and the passengers in the sideswiped vehicle also survived without injuries. The driver of the car that crashed head-on with the van was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, but she is expected to recover.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the van to swing into the oncoming lane in this Washington van accident. A medical emergency, a defect in the vehicle’s steering, or driver distraction have all caused Washington head-on collisions in the past, although investigators have not said whether any of these is considered a factor in this accident.
Advances in airbags, seat belt technology, and other safety features have reduced the number of deaths in head-on collisions in recent decades, but the risk of death or serious injury in one of these frightening crashes still remains.
