Iwakuma Throws No-Hitter

The Orioles’ best chance at getting to Iwakuma came in the fourth inning when he walked two batters. Iwakuma struck out the next batter to end the inning and didn’t let anyone on base the rest of the game. When Gerardo Parra’s two-out, ninth-inning drive to the dropped into centerfielder Austin Jackson’s glove to finish the no-hitter, the Safeco Field crowd of 25,661 stood and roared.
“I can’t find the words to express my feelings,” Iwakuma said through an interpreter after the game. “I’m truly happy.” Iwakuma joins Hideo Nomo as the only Japanese-born pitchers to throw a no-hitter.
The game was a highlight of the Mariners season. The team hasn’t won as much as expected, but days like Wednesday make up for a lot of losses. Even though it’s been a tough season, Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. supports our baseball team all year around.
