Lynnwood Street Crash Claims Life of Local Pedestrian

By Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. on December 9, 2015

Pedestrian AccidentA pedestrian crossing 200th Street SW in Lynnwood recently lost his life when he was hit by a driver who did not see him until it was too late. According to witnesses, an elderly man wearing very dark clothing was attempting to cross the street when the vehicle struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle, which had multiple passengers besides the driver, stayed on the scene. Its occupants have cooperated with police.

The accident happened on the block between 52nd Place and 56th Avenue, according to local police. Cloud cover and rain also made it difficult to see, which police believe played a role in the accident. The driver doesn’t appear to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Pedestrian accidents are on the rise nationwide. This is even as the number of car accidents has decreased in recent years. Darkness, rainy weather, and a lack of reflective clothing or lights can all combine to make pedestrians almost impossible for drivers to see. The results, as here, can be tragic.
