Pedestrian Injured in Capitol Hill Intersection Accident

By Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. on January 13, 2014

A man in his 20’s suffered a number of injuries when a car struck him at a Seattle intersection. According to a news report in The Seattle Times, the pedestrian accident occurred at East Harrison Street and Broadway East on Capitol Hill. Officials say he hit the windshield of the car after he was struck. He sustained a broken leg and other injuries. It is not clear how the accident occurred or what condition the man was in when he was transported to the hospital.

Seattle car accident lawyers see accidents like this one occur at busy city intersections often. When you are walking, it is important to use caution. Make eye contact with drivers before entering the roadway and only cross where there is an intersection or a crosswalk. Never dart into traffic or assume that a motorist sees you.

When driving, it is your responsibility to keep an eye out for pedestrians. Put away your phone or electronic device and stay focused on the roadway. If you fail to avoid a pedestrian who is legally crossing the street, you could face criminal penalties from the authorities and civil litigation from the injured party.

Injured victims of Seattle intersection accidents have the right to file a claim in court against the driver responsible for their injuries. A successful personal injury claim can result in support for medical bills, pain and suffering, lost income, and other related damages. Getting adequate support, however, can often be challenging.

To increase your chances of receiving fair compensation for your losses, make sure you keep detailed notes of everything you have lost because of the accident. Keep copies of your medical bills and keep a journal of your day-to-day struggles as a result of injuries suffered. Make sure you secure contact information from the driver and witnesses to the crash and research all of your options before making any decisions that could affect your personal and financial future.
