Crossing Guard Struck by Car in Ballard
In 2001, a 14-year-old girl sustained a lacerated liver when a car struck her as she crossed a street in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. Since then, her father has been committed to helping neighbors and school children make it safely across that crosswalk as a crossing guard. According to a news report in The Seattle Times, that crossing guard was recently struck by a car in a crosswalk on Northwest 65th Street.
Officials say the 67-year-old man was helping children get across the road when a car struck him. He was wearing a bright orange vest and carrying a crosswalk flag, but that didn’t stop a red Buick from striking him. The victim struck his head against the windshield and landed on top of the car. He sustained a bone fracture in his neck and was almost paralyzed. His now 25-year-old daughter says she is thankful his injuries were not worse. Read the rest »
