Tips to Avoid a Car Accident in Seattle this Black Friday

By Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. on November 22, 2016

Car accidents can happen any time, but on Black Friday, the chances of being in a car accident are much more likely. The Friday following Thanksgiving is of course, Black Friday, the day when consumers head out in droves looking for major discounts on their favorite items, and it comes at a great time, as many are just starting their Christmas shopping. But before excited shoppers can start lining up outside of retailers, they need to first get out on the roads and drive there, and because of this, it’s estimated that car accidents jump by 34 percent or more on Black Friday. Below are some tips to help prevent them from happening to you.

  • Lower the volume. When spurred on by the idea of finding the best deals out there, it can be easy to crank the volume and bop away on your way to the mall or store. But loud music can be very distracting, and you’ll be able to identify problems and react to them quicker if the volume is low, and you’re eyes and ears are both on the road.
  • Park farther away. Chances are, you’re not going to get the best spot right by the front doors, and trying to beat someone to it will only increase your chances of an accident. Instead, intend to park further away, where there will be more spots. You won’t have to compete for them in the back, and because there will be lighter traffic in that area, it will be easier to get in and out of the parking lot without incident.
  • Keep a safe distance. While on the road, two car-lengths is typically the recommended space between cars, this isn’t always possible in parking lots. Still, stay as far back as you can so that you’ll have enough time to brake if the car in front of you suddenly stops. Also, if someone rear-ends you, you won’t end up doing the same to car ahead.

Of course, even when taking the most extreme safety precautions and keeping laser-sharp focus, accidents can happen. When they happen to you, and you want to make an injury claim, call our professional and experienced Seattle car accident lawyers at Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. toll-free at (888) 228-3860  for a free initial case consultation.
